Investors, venture capitalists and people with simply too much money, now have the ability to buy themselves a nice British Airport. Shareholders and directors of Conventry airport are looking for a new owner and have initiated a search for new investors. According to the current CEO, Brian Cox, Coventry airport has excellent opportunities, or, as its management formulates it, "it gives prospective buyers a wealth of opportunities". However, as of November 2008 the last carrier serving Coventry ceased operating to the airport because of fierce opposition against a new terminal.
After that, Coventry was specifically focussed on accomodating charter airlines and general aviation, but the economic recession has made this an unprofitable excercise. Because of this a new investor is sought... Hands please!
Because of the current economic crises and the effect is has on the aviation industry, Airbus has decided to adjust its A380 aircraft delivery schedule for 2009/2010. Several customers have made a request to postpone delivery of newly ordered aircraft untill the economic environment starts to improve. According to the new plan which was published on May 6, Airbus is expecting to deliver 14 A380s in 2009 and more than 20 in 2010.
Airbus emphasized that the company will take mitigating actions against the negative effects of the new A380 delivery plan on free cash-flow of the company. Therefore no severe impact on EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Tax) is expected. Furthermore, according to an earlier announcement, Airbus confirms that the production rate of the A320 family will be reduced from 36 to 34 aircraft per month as of October 2009. Development of the A350XWB will be maintained at current speed.
In spite of these measures to counteract the negative impact of the current economic climate, Airbus expects to deliver the same amount of aircraft as in 2008, which was a record year.
On May 6 Boeing and Turkish Airlines announced the airline signed an order for the delivery of five Boeing 777-300ER airplanes (order valued at $ 1.36 billion). The airline currently operates a fleet of 65 Boeing aircraft including 737-800NG (Next Generation) and leased 777-300ERs (Jet Airways). Detailed technical information about the 777-300ER can be found here and here.
At this moment, Turkish Airlines is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. It flies to more than 140 destinations worldwide and carries approximately 20 million passengers yearly.

An unusual sight near Pierce County Airport in the state of Washington, where last weekend a pilot experienced an engine malfunction shortly after take-off. Manoeuvering the aircraft back to the airport of departure was unsuccessful as the pilot was unable to reach the runway. The aircraft consequently hit a fence, rolled over and landed on top of several portable toilets stored at a sight near the airport. The pilot, who was flying his aircraft alone, stayed unharmed according to American sources. Click here for the movie!
